The Play-off for the Founders Trophy took place on Sunday 21st August and we can confirm that Elaine Beswick won with a nett 70 beating Jason Crisp by 1 shot.
The club would like to say congratulations to Elaine who; not only wins this year’s Founders Trophy, but also becomes the very first Lady at HGGC to win a Saturday Summer Boarded Competition since all of our Saturday competitions became open to men and ladies.
Elaine‘s achievement is seen as a highly significant milestone within the context of HGGC delivering mixed competitions within the WHS framework.
We caught up with Elaine earlier this week to ask her a few questions about her achievement and to see if it had finally sunk in.
Elaine said ” I was shocked for the first couple of days. I feel proud and all my friends and family are proud. I have received so many lovely emails and texts from people from the club. I didn’t realise how big of an achievement it actually is. I played Jason Crisp who played really well, I won it on the 18th and I was really nervous at the start and it came down to the 18th green with a 3 foot putt to win and I managed to sink the putt”
Elaine has been playing at HGGC since 2014 and has recently decided to upgrade her membership to play in our Saturday competitions alongside the men and other ladies who compete on a weekly basis. Elaine said “I love playing Saturdays it is a bit of a change from playing with the ladies only but I feel it has improved my golf and I now play off the lowest handicap I have ever had and the men have been very welcoming to all the ladies.”
Elaine also said “The club has changed her life, I have met amazing friends and it’s such a friendly club. I would recommend this club to anyone who wants to play golf. I am really happy to be here and proud to be here.
We asked Elaine what advice would she have for ladies wanting to get into golf. Elaine said “I have been trying to encourage the ladies to play Saturdays because it’s fun and it’s a good laugh and really exciting.”
Congratulations to Elaine on her win in The Founders Trophy and becoming the very first lady to win a Saturday Summer Boarded Competition.
